For Years 7 and 8 at Shenley Brook End School, progress is reported using Age Related Expectations (AREs). This approach enables us to assess how well students are performing against the knowledge, skills and understanding expected for their age and stage of learning within each subject.
Students are assessed against subject-specific curriculum expectations through both in-class assessments and Progress Review Points and are awarded one of the following outcomes:
- Working Beyond Age-Related Expectations – the student is demonstrating a secure and advanced understanding of the curriculum for their year group.
- Working At Age-Related Expectations – the student is meeting the expected standard and making appropriate progress through the curriculum.
- Working Towards Age-Related Expectations – the student is developing their understanding and requires further support or practice to consistently meet the expected standard.
Together, Age Related Expectations and Attitudes to Learning provide parents and carers with a clear picture of both academic progress and the learning behaviours that underpin long-term success.
Each Progress Review contains the following information for every subject:
- ARE Working At Grade – derived from the assessments your child has completed within that subject area and reflects their current level of attainment.
- ARE Target Grade – based on your child's Key Stage 2 outcomes and indicates the level they are expected to achieve by the end of Year 8.
- Attitude to Learning in School – reflects how consistently your child demonstrates the Shenley Values. Are they kind? Are they respectful? Do they work hard in lessons?
- Attitude to Home Learning – reflects how consistently your child engages with learning beyond the classroom, including whether homework is completed, submitted on time and produced to the best of their ability. Please refer to the KS3 Guide to Homework for details of homework expectations and the frequency with which homework is set.
The Progress Review report does not contain the results of in class assessments that your child may have undertaken recently. To see these for each subject please login to www.go4schools.com and follow the instructions on the help sheet HERE.
